I was flipping through the test patterns on my Video Essentials disk the other day and started wondering about this. Would it be possible to make a test pattern that could be used to set a display to 6500K (or close to it) without any special hardware? Kind of like the color bar/blue film pattern to set color and tint.

Likely ... except that test pattern would not be on your TV ... but rather in print form.

A b/w picture of the ramped grayscale bars from bright to dark. YOu would need to view this photo under a D6500K light though ... and then you could play with the TV's cuts and drivers until you ended up close to the photo.

Like a really poor man's optical comparator ...

Regards
