Take this however you like, but according to French Web page DVD FR (who have got A LOT of speculations correct in the past) the new edition of "E.T" will be released on October 8th. At least in France. Extras on the disk will be :

    Introduction by Steven Spielberg

    Audio commentary by Steven Spielberg

    Audio commentary by the actors

Isolated soundtrack with commentary bu John Williams

    Making of documentary

Making of 20th anniversay edition documentary

    Deleted scenes

Comparison between storyboards & final film

    Bloopers

    Photo gallery

Virtual tour of the Universal Parc attraction

    Trailer

One can only hope those commentary tracks are on the disc...

While a Spielberg doesn't do commentaries, I wouldn't say 100% that the inclusion of that on the features list means this is bogus information. Two things:

1.)Perhaps it is not screen specific, but rather just interview audio edited together (and it's being called a commentary).

2.)If there's 2 Spielberg films that I think he *might* actually want to do a commentary for, I would say that they'd be ET and Schindler's List. He's said those are two very personsal films for him. So who knows?

    Regards,

    Dan

I bet Steven Spielberg won't do commentary on this release. I am really sure as, IMO, he doesn't like to reveal his movie-making secret to fans.

If there is a Spielberg commentary (file me under "doubt it"), which version would it be on? The 1982 original release, or the current re-release? AFAIK, both versions will be included in the DVD release this year.

I believe it's fake too. The person who wrote this is probably laughing as we read this.

It´s fake because Spielberg doesn´t record commentaries?!?!

What? People can´t change their mind?!?! Happens all the time..

What if someone has told Spielberg that he doesn´t have to "reveal his movie-making secret to fans". Not one of them.

I´d be Glad to listen to how the shoot was, like how the actors were to work with and so on, about the phenomenon and so on. There´s plenty to talk about.

People change their minds. All the Time.

I'd think that if Spielberg would ever do a commentary track, it would be for this film. I still hold out hope.

wasn't their a TV special recently that had the entire cast along with Speilberg and Kathleen Kennedy sitting around a table reminiscing about the movie. i think it aired around the time the movie was due in theaters for the re-release. if he sat around for this, whose to say he didn't hang around for a commentary. anything is possible.

all i know is that Universal better not shortchange us on the terrific documentary from the CAV box set like they did with Jaws.

I honestly don't care one way or another about a commentary, but I REALLY want to see the Harrison Ford deleted scene!

    Before everyone gets all excited...
For those of you who didn't see the Elliot and the school principal scene on the laserdisc, Harrison Ford is mostly obscured for the entire scene. This is in keeping with Spielberg's idea of not showing adults in the film. Ford plays the principal, giving a lecture to Elliott (it's clearly his voice) and can be seen in shadow and in over-the-shoulder shots. His hands are quite expressive. [IMG]
On the laserdisc, Henry Thomas tells how, as a huge Star Wars fan, being in a scene with Harrison Ford was one of the reasons he took the job.

For the record it should be added the ET CAV Laserdisc box set not only came with a special gold version of the mid-90s expanded score release, but the film itself carried an isolated score track.
