That's odd. Searchlight is releasing this, and they also have Magazine Dreams scheduled for December 8. I can't recall another time when a single distributor opened two films on the same day competing with itself. It happens all the time with films from competing studios (see most recently Barbie and Oppenheimer), but not so much from the same company.

Of course, Magazine Dreams was dated there before Jonathan Majors' legal issues started, so perhaps Searchlight/Disney are adjusting plans for it as well. They want the cast of Poor Things to be able to do press (but haven't moved to restart SAG-AFTRA negotiations yet.) But in the case of Magazine Dreams, the strike might be an excuse to put that out and not have Jonathan Majors do press.

Yeah, I think you've got it- they haven't announced it but Searchlight is going to basically dump Magazine Dreams. Due to the accusations against Jonathan Majors, the best case scenario for the movie is to be put quietly on Hulu. Any chance it had at awards or a wide-ish release is gone.
