I just hope this thread doesn't get lost among all those tourneys [IMG]
What are the first ten titles you'd purchase on HD-DVD/FMD when it becomes available? You may choose any titles you like, including those not yet released on DVD such as Star Wars, etc.

Assuming that the primary benefit is enhanced detail and stronger color reproduction, I'd have to go with films that offer much to the viewer in terms of visual detail or compelling imagery.
    In no particular order -
    Alien
    Princess Mononoke
    The Fifth Element
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Apocalypse Now
    Blue
    Microcosmos
    The Thin Red Line
    City of Lost Children
    Toy Story 2
( Limiting myself to ten was difficult. )

I would go with a lot of grand scale epics and films that really take advantage of the widescreen aspect ratio.
    -Lawrence of Arabia
    -Spartacus
    -2001
    -Blade Runner
    -Ben Hur
    -The Piano
    -Manhattan
    -My Fair Lady
    -Cleopatra
    -Road Warrior
These are not exactly my 10 favorite films of alltime, But they are 10 that I would love to see on a nice huge HDTV display. Something I can not afford, but I can always dream [IMG]

After purchasing a 16x9 HDTV display (I have a modest 20" analog 4:3 right now), I would buy...

    Lawrence of Arabia

    North By Northwest

    Ben-Hur

    Doctor Zhivago

    O Brother Where Art Thou?

    Superman: The Movie

    2001: A Space Odyssey

Around the World in Eighty Days

The Bridge on the River Kwai

    Shrek

All are epics and all would benifit GREATLY from that ultra high-resolution.

    Great thread!

Cause I wanted too do it as well.

Only I wanted the first title you would want on HD-DVD.

    And it wasn't about faves.

It was about improved transfer potential.

So, no SW [unless someone thinks that film will 'look better' in HD], just what will really shine in HD.

That hasn't 'shined' in a previous format release.

Like, I love the look of Ice Age on DVD & D-VHS.

Not saying it won't look great in HD-DVD.

But what title is going to make you drop your drawers and pay $30 [est.] for your first disc & $1000 [est.] for your first player, for the improved picture quality.

    For me it's;

    Antz

With a direct from the digital files 1080i[p, please] transfer.

O, and sign me up for 'all of the above', as well.

Although, they would have to work overtime I am afraid on title's like Road Warrior, too make that title 'shine' on HD.

    Thank's.

    2001, in HD.

    Spacey!
