How many New Release Titles do you average in a year?

(Not including new to DVD catalog titles)

I'm trying to figure out if I'm an Odd-ball vs. the rest of HTF. :D

First of all I don't collect all the films that I just like. (otherwise I'd own well over 1,000 titles) A film has to be outstanding or highly rewatchable for me to purchase it.

Having said that I'm averaging 5/6 new release titles a year (in 5+ years of collecting).

How about the rest of you?

I buy a lot of dvds (about 4 per week), but almost all are new-to-dvd catalog releases. There are very few new films that I've managed to actually see by the time the dvd first comes out and also want to own (for me films are rewatchable or not, and if they are it's a purchase). So while I couldn't give you a firm number, very few.

I'd say less than 10 a year - most of my purchases are catalogue titles.

Let's see, I started collecting in fall 2000, and I've got (this is not counting the ones I bought and later sold when I was Mister-Insane-I'll-Buy-Anything-Man.):

2000:
Best in Show
Dancer in the Dark
Fantasia 2000
Small Time Crooks
X-Men

2001:
A.I.
Amelie
Donnie Darko
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2 versions)
The Man Who Wasn't There
Monsters, Inc.
Moulin Rouge
Mulholland Dr.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Waking Life

2002:
Minority Report
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Intend to buy:
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Chicago

Wow, I hadn't realized 2001 was such a good year. I guess my answer is 4-12.

Maybe about 5 new releases a year, the rest are catalogue titles...and very often not even new-to-DVD catalogue titles.

I can understand the fun in weekly visits to the store, but few new titles are undoubtedly worth owning for me. If something interests me, I'll usually wait for the price to fall unless it's grade-A material.

It's even fewer than I thought. I just checked out my collection and there are about half a dozen new release titles from the past two years and the only non sequel amongst them is Training Day.

Somewhere around 5-10.

I haven't bought any this year. So far, the only one's I'm definitely getting are 25th Hour, Spirited Away, Far From Heaven and whenever Punch-Drunk Love & Russian Ark comes out.

I've really been restraining myself this year. I've only bought 4 DVD's so far - Three Colours, Written On The Wind, Veggietales for the kids, and a preorder of Effi Briest. April and May will be pretty big months though.

Very few. I currently have around 130 titles...

Walking With Dinosaurs
Fantasia 2000
"Weird Al" Live
O Brother Where Art Thou
Rejected
Shadow of the Vampire
A.I.
Shrek
Moulin Rouge
Monsters Inc.
The Fellowship of the Ring (both the 2-disc and 4-disc editions)
Kung Pow: Enter The Fist

That's all my new releases accumulated since 2000.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I guess I fall in line with most everyone else around here.
