List some good movies by bad directors. (My definition of a bad director is one who makes more bad movies than good ones, but you may use your own definition.) My choices:

Robocop and Basic Instinct Paul Verhoeven

Aww, I think Verhoeven's a pretty good director!

I got a good one for you.

The Stunt Man by Richard Rush. I don't know if you can really say Rush is a bad director, but he certainly hasn't done anything else of consequence.

Thelma and Louise. I love that movie, but I've hated everything else Ridley Hack...er, I mean Scott, has done.
Also, Michael Winner's film, I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name.
Victor Fleming's name should also be brought up. Everything I've read about him suggests he was quite the hack. Rumour has it that, during the shooting of Gone With the Wind, he once gave Vivien Leigh the direction "Just go out there and ham it up." I don't know how much truth there is to that. And if he was really so bad, how did GWTW and The Wizard of Oz turn out to be so damn good?

    >>If I were you, I wouldn't consider someone who made one "great" movie (Soldier of Orange) and went downhill a good director.

    Steve_Ch,

OK. I agree with you. I was under the impression from your previous post that you didn't care for any of Verhoeven's films except Soldier of Orange, so just ignore my statement. Again, I encourage everyone to use their own criteria as to what constitute "good" movies/directors (we're not concerned with "great" movies/directors, which would be another subject).

I liked Tigerland, but I hate everything else Joel Schumacher has done.

    Rain,

The sepia-toned parts of Oz were done by King Vidor.

GWTW was also partially directed by Sam Wood and George Cukor.
