We're 2/3 of the way into 2002 and I'd like to know what everyone thought the absolute best DVD bargain of the year is, B&M or online. Could be just a great deal, good coupon, price glitch, etc.
    My contenders would be:
    Overstock.com - 2001: Space Odyssey (Special Box Set MSRP $59.98) $7.47
    Overstock.com - Opera (2-disc Limited Edition MSRP 34.98) 7.47
    Overstock.com - Rocky gift set (MSRP 89.99) $19.99
    Overstock.com - Seven Samurai Criterion $9.99
Sam Goody + Media Play - ET Ultimate Gift Set $22.49
Blockbuster - Ken Burns Civil War (MSRP $129.99) $29.99
    MoviesUnlimited.com - Sid+Nancy Criterion (OOP but in stock) 39.99
Best Buy - Dances With Wolves DTS 2-disc (OOP but in stock) $24.99
Blockbuster - Lord of the Rings DVD(+10 movie rentals) $24.99
    Disney Store - All 1-disc DVD's $10.00 a pop(sale just ended)
    Amazon.com - LOTR 5-disc collector's set (MSRP $79.99) (using original price + Share the Love + $5 coupon) $42.93 shipped
I know I'm missing a whole bunch, any other unbeliveable deals this year? I'm not really looking for personal finds (ex. "I found Salo at a Pawn shop!"), but rather deals that were available to everyone (even if only for a very limited time like many of these were)

Well, the Alec Guinness box set was available from Deep Discount DVD for something like $42.00 - with five movies in the set, it was a great bargain. Keep in mind that that was a pre-order price, I'm not sure what it's going for now.

I think the 2-disc SE's from Warner are a bargain.

$19.99 at amazon.com for a fully loaded DVD like Singin' In The Rain is great. For that price, you can get the bare-bones Airplane!

    September 13, 2002.
    They also had:
The Beyond (LE tin MSRP $39.99) 4.97
    Star Trek Generations 4.97
    The Gold Rush 3.97
and many, MANY more at similar prices. Earlier this year Overstock also had Sullivan's Travels Criterion for 9.99 and the Deluxe Jurassic Park/Lost World box set (MSRP 119.99) for less than $20.
Of course, by the time I found out all these deals were gone, but every once in a while Overstock has some crazy bargains. I now check every day!

I got Seven Samurai, The Third Man, and L'Avventurra all for $9.99 each from Overstock. I got Spartacus CC for $9.99 from them also. I would say anyone lucky enough to get the History of Beavis and Butt-head for $20 is sitting pretty right now also [IMG].
