Ok, I have a tight budget. I need a set of bookshelf speakers for music (mostly pop/vocal stuff) for under $100. I know, I know.....there aren't much to choose from...but as a college student, my $$ options are really limited. Right now I have my eyes set on either the Polk R10's oe the Yamaha NS5290. I am going to run them with 100Watts RMS. Which of these speakers will give me the best midrange (vocals) with smooth highs? The bass I'll leave to my sub. If you guys know of better speakers in the $100 price range, please inform me about it. Thanks:emoji_thumbsup:

I vote Polk as well. You may want to check Circuit City for a closeout they had on the Polk RT15Is. They recently had them in a black vinyl finish - rather than wood veneer - for a great price. Something like $59-69 each. Also, check out the new R15, which is the new replacement model for the R10.

I will also put in a vote for the Polks between those two, but neither would be my choice for vocals, ultimately. The soft dome tweeter in the Polks will be better for vocals than the aluminum tweeter in the Yamahas.
