Please recommend some speakers!! (1 Viewer)

I have the following set up:
Yamaha RX-V3000 Receiver
JBL S38 Front and Rears
JBL S Center
Energy EXL-S10 Subwoofer
I recently upgraded from an entry level set of Energy Encore speakers to the JBL's. However, I really don't hear the difference. I feel I am still at the entry level.
The JBL's sound a little muddy, especially when the volume is cranked up on an action movie. The wife complains that the speakers are too loud. I need a set of speakers that sound terrific even with the volume turned down.

What is your budget? Do you have any placement issues? Are you using these mainly for HT or are you wanting to listen to lots of music also?
There are many options, but narrowing some of the above will help us to give you some meaningful suggestions.
