So, I picked up an SVS 25-31CS from someone on this forum and it's soon to be on the way. Now I need to purchase an amp for it. The only way I was able to justify getting the sub in the 1st place was the good deal, so I can't go spending a ton on the amp.

Please recommend a decently priced amplifier that can power my newest addition to the HT. I would give a price range, but I'm not sure how much good/moderate/bad mono amps are supposed to cost. Just think cheap! Thanks! [IMG]

On the cheapest side of things...

The Audiosource Amp/1A running bridged has proven to be an excellent bargain sub amp. I have three people running it for their sub channel.

When people ask me about their blown subs, I will usually just get one of these and wire it direct to the existing sub/driver bypassing the sub amp, which is usually the issue if the sub came with an integrated amp. So far most report a substanitive improvement from the internal sub amp.

I don't buy a lot of used amps, there may be some sweet deals in that arena.

    Hmm, Anybody used ubid??

They show 11 of these in stock. At a ubuy brice of $79 each???

These are happening amps performance wise.
I am going to get 5 of them. I guess I'll postback when recieved and checked out. Just to good of a deal, and it lets me try my much anticipated full 7 channels of bi-amp on my 7.1 setup.

If I had more money, I think I would get like 10 of them. I like these amps very much.

Well maybe not.. It says they (ubid) can't verify my CC. Oh well... Good buy if it is real. The site gets mixed but mostly positive reviews by the way at this link:

Prices should be pretty low for Audiosource stuff, considering they just went out of business not too long ago.

A friend has used Ubid a lot for audio gear and says he likes it.

Ahhh, I had wondered.... You sure about that?
    http://www.audiosource.net/

I will have to keep a close eye out for all sources then. Could be some sceaming buys on their amps. At least I still feel confident I can trouble shoot analog amplifiers in case of failure. [IMG]

Hmm, I just called them on the phone. They said they are alive and doing well. Can I ask your source of information for them being out of business???

It would make me a little sad if they do. That little Amp/1A kicks out some serious performance at 4 ohms bridged. Maybe the best $200 or less power amp out there really.

I'm pretty sure...but its second hand info. A local HTF-er and I met up, and a relative of his worked there (Audiosource is local to us). Maybe it was just one particular division that they closed down?

Thanks to both of you. I picked up one of the AMP1A's from ubid.com, as I have purchased from them in the past. Thanks again for the help!

Well I think I got the CC thing figured out, the remaining 8 left were relisted today.

    I bought them all. [IMG]

If you can, come back and give your impressions of it with your SVS.

$79 for that amp, was just to good of a deal for me.

Up to 16 channels of quality amplification for under $700.
Although I will be using them as mono blocks.

    John,

I received it last week and it kicks butt! For $80, I couldn't have hoped for a better amp for my sub. Thanks again!

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure you recieved yours. Mine will probably be here any day. I think I am sitting at 7 days right now.

Pretty amazing augiophile level amps period, let alone at $80.... [IMG]

Glad you like it, and it met your budget needs. I'll bet your sub drive is 4 ohms. You get a serious 300watts out of that amp bridged on a 4 ohm load.

Another amp for anyone interested is the Amc 2100 as well since it can be bridged and found dirt cheap used as well.

I'd just like to add that thanks to this thread, I picked up a pair of AmpTwo's from Ubid. Too bad the AMP1A's didn't have the auto on feature I needed for my remote zones. Anyway, when they say refurb, they aren't kidding. Don't know about the rest of the amps you guys have received, but these would have to rate about a 7/10 on the appearance scale. The faces are clean, but the top covers on both of them are scratched and even dented in spots. I guess I shouldn't expect too much given the price, but geez. I've bought a number of refurbs from other manufacturers in the past and all have looked brand new. Overall the build quality on these is pretty cheap. There is no way I'd ever consider paying near full price. Oh well, I suppose as long as they work & sound good it's not a big deal. So far all I've had time to do is make sure they power up.
