    Hi...thanks for looking...

I'm building my first HT and I'm faced with a decision. Whether to go with the Marantz 7300 OSE or the Denon 2803. I'm unfamiliar with both of these receivers but they fit within my budget scheme. I can get the Denon for 2/3rds the price of the Marantz, however.

I know that the 7300 OSE has 110 watts compared with the 2803's 90 watts per channel. Also the 7300 has gold plated connectors and a copper chasis, the 2803 doesn't.

But, in terms of the sound of a Marantz compared to the Denon...what's the difference?

Also, in terms of their surround processing capabilities, which is better?

If there are any other things I should consider, please help me out...

[My proposed set up would be:
Fronts: B&W 801's (powered by an outboard amp)
    Center: B&W HTM2
    Rears: B&W CDM SNT
    NO BASS yet
Either the Marantz 7300 OSE or the Denon 2803...or something else.]

    Any help is much appreciated...thanks!!

    Real Name:
OSE. The OSE will deliver more current, and sounds better than the Denon at this price point (for music, IMO). If you went with external amplification for the center as well, you could probably go with a regular 7300.

Gold plated connectors doesn't gain you much. In terms of processing, the 7300 and OSE are basically identical, and the 2803 is very similar.

Isn't the 3803 more along the lines of the OSE?
