I'd still contact whichever group did the region mod on the LG. If they can fix it easily with a firmware change or software addition, then great you have 2 players (one to sell or a spare). If not, then it's a cheap "Nothing to be done"

And NEVER update the firmware using the manufacturer's firmware, whether downloaded or on USB. That will almost always get rid of your region-free modification.

I guess it depends on the player and the type mod, but my 2 OPPOs, Sony (from Bombay Electronics), and Seiki are all firmware stable,

Almost all the players modded through Bombay or 220 Electronics are firmware stable. Outside the US with more variations on the mods, that may be quite different though the OPPO BD modification is stable worldwide

If it's a software/Disc/USB installed modification then I agree.
