Playing music over network (1 Viewer)

What's the best media player for playing music/movies over a network?

I keep most of my media on my basement PC, and sometimes want to stream a song or video to my upstairs machine. I've had good luck with Windows Media Player when watching movies off of the upstairs PC on the basement machine, but the other way around, I usually have dropouts and pauses with audio and video.

Any players better at this type of thing than others?
