I got my parents the top of the line Toshiba 36" flatscreen tv (they didn't want a wide screen)and now they want a dvd player. My mom intended to get a combo player dvd/vcr (she needs a vcr also), but I kind of talked her out of it. I'm not too crazy about about the combo players, I feel like they may be cutting back on the quality of the dvd, vcr or both.
Anyway, they want to spend $100 and there are many in that price range, Panasonics,Toshibas, Sonys, Jvcs. etc, is there much difference in this price range regarding features, reliability? I'm kind of partial to Panasonics because they make really good higher end players, any suggestions? It would be run directly into tv and they would just be using stereo outs.

getting them a Toshiba might be the best.
