Hooked up the Samsung Blu-ray player to my system (1080P Sony Ruby projected to 110" screen) last night and gave xXx -Blu-ray, the only Blue-ray media I've received to date, a spin.

If I haven't been watching HD DVD's lately, I would have thought this title was far superior to DVD, but I have been watching VC1 coded HD DVD media and the MPEG 2 Blu-ray disc produces video noise that clearly isn't present on HD DVD.

The sound was sent via digital coaxial to my receiver and was great. There is also an uncompressed PCM 5.1 English track on the disc, that I want to hear, as soon as I have more time to set the output up.

At this point, I'm not buying any more DVD's and saving my money for High Def media.
At the moment, if I had a choice on a title, I would pick HD DVD first, but would like to see the same, or better quality on Blu-ray.

Are you going to run the pcm5.1 via analog coaxial cables x 6? Yes, please report on the audible differences as soon as you do a complete test.

I know. He is posting the same request and link in a lot of active Blu-ray threads, including the Blu-ray owners sub-forum.

    Edit:

I should modify the words "a lot of" to "a couple of". I do not want to be accused of engaging in hyperbole.

GOD! Another title that I would rebuy on BD is botched! TFE, Terminator, HOFD, and now this! Four strikes for Sony.

    Neil,
I had some extra time earlier this morning to play around with the uncompressed PCM 5.1 option. I found that track more dynamic sounding while the the coaxial audio sounded thin to me in comparison. I was really impressed by the former and will probably watch my Blu-ray discs if provided with that audio option going forward.

I forgot to add which title I was playing this morning, it was Underworld: Evolution.

Awesome, thanks for the report on this as I have been anxious for someone to provide info about the uncompressed audio. This is how I will hook mine up when I get one, and not via optical or digital coaxial, or even hdmi since my receiver is not 1.3.
