Plasma Problem - Toshiba (1 Viewer)

We have a 42" Toshiba HD Plasma TV that has jsut develpoed a fine colored line on the right side of the screen about 8" in and runs about 1/2 way down from the top of the screen.

In checking it's there with DVD, HD and regualr cable TV.

Any ideas, this set is only about 4 years old.:frowning:

Is it anywhere close to where 4:3 black bars might be on the TV?

Welcome to the forum. When you watch dvd, tv or receiver menu screens or any image that has stationary non-moving images this can happen. Video games also can cause this because with some games, backgrounds don't change. Setting contrast and brightness on your plasma too high can cause this to have more of an impact on your screen. Set the contrast no higher than halfway or 50%. Then adjust the other settings from there. Depending on how severe the line is it should become less pronounced with time.

Yes it is, but when I change the picture format is seems to move with it

Pixel failure? Or some series of pixels deciding to get stuck.

what happens of you put all black on screen? Still visible? All White? All Red ... All Green All Blue?

Booting up before the picture comes on no line, once it receives the picture/signal then you see the line Looks violet most of the time but will change some what with the back ground. Just went down and the wife was watching Ghost Hunters and in the balck and white night scenes you barely see it unless you get right up to the screen and look real close, as soon as it goes white in that area the violet line appears from the top to about half way down the screen, looks like maybe one row of pixels if you look real close.

Less then 3 years old but one year out of the extended warranty :frowning:

I have been communicating with Toshiba, but strangely enough when I sent them the picture and went through all I've done to date, per their request, they have stopped replying. Must be they didn't like what they saw :frowning:

Not happy with the local dealer or Toshiba at this point. Guess all we can do is wait till it goes completely then get something from someone else. Maybe by then the OLED will be available at a reasonable price.

UPDATE; I just remembered this post, shortly after that last note that fine line went to a 1/2" black line and is now about 3.5" and all the way from the top to the center of the panel. It's got to the point now that it is now a major pain and we are looking for a replacement.


Two things it will not be 1) a Toshiba, 2) a Plasma TV. It will also not be purchased where I had purchased the last TV from.
