We have a built in entertainment center in our family
room which accomodates only a 45" TV. We would like to go for a bigger HDTV Screen TV. We are not sure whether
    1) To remove the entertainment center and replace the wall
    with a plasma TV

    or

    2) Have a screen come down in front of the entertainment center from the ceiling and have a projector.

The family room can be made dark by closing windows etc.
But it is not a dark dark room like Home theaters.
We are really confused but would like a nice big screen TV in our family room. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance ....

A few have done the screen pulling down in front of the RPTV idea, thus having the best of both worlds. If you can accomodate this, it would be great. Nothing provides the experience like a front projection system

    What is the budget?

I would like to spend between 5000 - 10,000 dollars.
What is RPTV? I also like the idea of having a projector and
screen and our family room is big enough to accomodate that.
Any idea of a good projector and Screen? Thanks

RPTV = rear projection TV which is probably what you already have (45"). I will chime in later with some specifics regarding front projection later on.

    5-10K?

I would jump on going Front Projection with that kind of cash.

Thanks so much - I would welcome any specifics/details on which system to choose. I definitely would like HDTV and a high resolution . Some people had complained of headaches etc with DLP projectors and I was a little concerned. Would welcome any suggestions. Also concerned about rainbow effect - not sure of what that means though
