Haven't heard about it before but the BBFC "leaked" some
interesting info and I am assuming that there is new box
on the way with at least 6 discs (including the 2001 remake).

Disclaimer: this is just speculation for a potential R2
release but since Robert Crawford hinted that
"another appearance of a Planet with Apes" could happen
in 2004, it will probably be out for R1 as well.

In the thread about the trip that Ron and some of the mods took to visit Fox Studios (and Paramount), it is mentioned in passing that a new PotA set is possibly in-the-works.

Edit: Oops...I see you mention that at the bottom!

Well, I'm glad I only spent $40 on the last set. Hopefully they'll put the 2-disc behind the planet of the Apes in the box this time.

Hopefully Fox will give us what's needed most here: NEW ANAMORPHIC TRANSFERS on all the original Planet of the Apes films. If not then I for one won't bother buying the new set.

Doug, bingo! I haven't bought the first set because I want anamorphic. If they don't do it for this one, I'll pass on it as well.

All of these are on the Image 2-DVD named Behind the Planet of the Apes.

PLANET OF THE APES 35TH ANNIVERSARY - EASTER EGG: MEGO TOY COMMERCIAL 1m 18s,
Cool easter egg! Those Mego action figures were some of the best ever made.

I've also been holding off on buying the existing box set due to the non-anamorphic transfers. I sincerely hope that Fox corrects this on the new set. If so, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I love these films.

Jeff, yes, but according to the info above, this is a text-based audio commentary.

I hope they will include the deleted scenes for Battle of the Planet of the Apes (featuring in a Japanese LD)

and the opening sequence for Escape from the Planet of the Apes with the three Apes in the space shuttle looking at the destruction of Planet Earth.

If they ever shot that, I would like to see it as a supplement, but not edited back in the movie. It would ruin the humorous opening of the film -- you don't know they're apes till they take off their helmets.

BATTLE should be the extended version. It's played on TV, and is on the Japanese laserdisc set. The brief scenes make a huge difference in the storyline.

The extended TV print was my first exposure to the film, so I was surprised when I saw the shorter theatrical version. In syndication, I've read that some markets ran the shorter version; but the longer one was what ran in my area.

Yes that scene sets the stage for the keepers of the bomb, later seen in Beneath!
