I was thinking of getting an LCD but visited a friend the other evening who just bought a small one with built in tuner to sit on his kitchen counter. He doesn't have HD cable but regular cable and the picture for the most part looks terrible. It was full of blocking thoughout the picture and you have to stand 8 feet away to not notice it but still there, unacceptable for such a small screen (15" I think). What is going on? Can it be resolved? He has a Westinghouse brand.

The problem you are experiencing with it is probably more and indication of it's internal tuner and scaler than the display itself. Feed it some DVD and see if it is better or worse.

I am not a fan of Westinghouse displays in general, but excessive macroblocking is not one of the reasons why. Not sure on this one.
