Well I popped in PB last night to give a once over (for the 20 some odd'th time) and I finally paid attention to the opening credits and notice the all important 'frickin' rogue comet that they happened to pass through (the tail end of it anyway).
I saw this movie in the theaters, and like I said above, at least 20 other times on DVD. Boy!
I guess that the beginning makes more sense now.

I didn't notice the rogue comet either, until watching it several times. That attention to detail is why I like this film so much.
The Director's commentary mentions that the opening title sequence, with the ship moving through space toward the comet, was inserted very late in post production. Great work for such short notice!

My appreciation for it continues. It has great pacing, some wonderful moral dilemmas, a premise that it doesn't wear out, and some damn nice cinematography. I gave the first commentary a spin not too long ago and was very impressed with their decisions and preparations for it. The best B movie to be made in some time.

I never heard of the movie until a few months ago when I started to come across word of mouth raves (such as here, Amazon,...) and I finally rented the movie last week.
I liked it so much that I am going to buy a copy so I can "comb" through it a few more times.
Among its many strength is the "look", I definitely think this is one of the best looking movies ever, and the scene of eclipse was simply breath taking.

>>Was I the only one that found the female lead in Pitch Black very attractive, and yet tough as well?
