I started watching it and really like what I’m seeing, except for one thing. Image that should be black or near black is coming out dark blue with a little bloom to it sometime. I think this a failure in my calibration settings for my LG LED UH8500. Anyone know which setting would improve this?

So pretty much all the reviews I’ve read have been extremely positive.

The main question seems to be whether it’s worth upgrading from the old bluray. I think it’s pretty obvious that it is.

We can add RAH to the list if rave reviews.

I’m too lazy right now to load the blu ray and see if there is a director’s cut, but I don’t remember the menu asking me to select a movie version. Anyone now what the differences between theatrical and director’s are?

The director's cut is three minutes longer. List of changes here:

BTW, this UK disc is titled “Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black.

The movie was rebranded "The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black" on home video at the time the sequel was released. This only amounted to a change on the packaging. The movie itself was untouched.

If you accept this rebranding, the franchise goes:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black -> The Chronicles of Riddick -> Riddick

I guess a fourth movie would have to be called "Rid" and a fifth just "R."
