According to their Facebook page, Scream Factory is releasing Piranha II: The Spawning on January 30.

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT **

Look what’s swimming to Blu-ray this in 2018. PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING – Director James Cameron’s first feature film from 1981 – will be landing on January 30th in the U.S. and Canada and we have some early details for you today!

• This will be branded as a “Collector’s Edition” that will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date)

• We are implementing a change of our normal practice regarding the artwork strategy on this one. Normally we would commission a new illustrated piece and then provide the original theatrical poster on the reverse. In this case, the already-existing illustrated international key art that you see featured here (which was also used for the domestic VHS release) was so pitch perfect and iconic to the film that we felt it would be a challenge to try to improve upon so we made an exception here. Plus, the theatrical U.S. poster also had a cool design that we wanted to use as well somehow…so that image will be on the reverse. (Image in the thread below)

• Extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced at a later date. However, we can confirm that we will be doing a brand new HD film transfer (finally presented in its proper aspect ratio) and it is the uncut version that was previously seen on the previous DVD release.

I don't know that there's much interest (and given the lack of quality of the movie, I don't really blame anyone for that ) but according to Facebook, the release has been delayed until further notice.

We sincerely regret to report today that our planned release of PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING is being placed on hold until further notice. This is prompted by some unexpected issues that arose from the project after we announced it last Friday.

As fans of the film ourselves, no one is more disappointed to bring you this news than we are. We are working to resolve the situation so that we can still bring you the title in 2018 and will keep you posted on any updates.

Shout/Scream seems to do this occasionally. One would think they'd have everything completely settled before making announcements.

It's either an issue with the film elements (Hell Night, Hellhole) or a rights issue that prevents the release entirely (Cruel Jaws, A Lizard in a Woman's Skin - AKA Schizoid). Hopefully the former is the case here, because I'm kinda curious to see the first directorial effort from James Cameron presented correctly (the SONY DVD was an abomination).
