    Hello,
I have a Pioneer VSX-521-K 5.1 Receiver and can’t get the subwoofer working. The speakers are from my older Sony speakers the subwoofer is not a powered unit. Anyone know why?

    Thanks.

You can only use a powered subwoofer, so the Sony sub will require an amplifier. If it was from a HTIB system, you could use it as the amplifier.

Also be careful plugging in the old Sony speakers to the new receiver. Depending on the impedance of the speakers it could damage the Pioneer (or make it run very hot).
