Just got a look at this set and I think this could be true love !
I realize that this is a new offering from Pioneer, but does anyone have any comments or reviews ? Thanks

I too am sorely tempted to get one of these. Comments over at AVS seem divided on the black level issue: it's certainly better than Pioneer's older 433 models, but said to be marginally inferior to Panasonic's 6UY; on the flip side, most also agree this Pioneer has far more brilliant colours.

The main reason I still haven't pulled the trigger myself is price: this is a fair bit more pricey than anything else in the market.

Over the weekend, though, I had the opportunity to look at a 434 and one of the new Sonys, not exactly side-by-side and they were showing different material, but the Sony certainly looked good too. But IIRC the Sony's price is "even worse"...

I hear what you are saying about the price. That's another question/issue that I was going to raise. If you look a one of these guys in a store, or authorized internet retailer, the price is lets say x. If you get a price from a fairly reputable non-authorized internet retailer, the price is y. Let's say that y is CONSIDERABLY lower than x. The Pioneer web page says that they will not honor their 1 year basic warranty if the set is purchased from a non-authorized internet seller. "Feel lucky, punk ?"

The solution is, go with a different brand with a different warranty policy, and get it online (aka Panasonic, NEC, etc).

At least you guys have the on-line option: I don't, not out here anyways.

Funny thing is, the big chains (Harvey Norman, Best Denki, Courts), have the 434 going for around S$12K (around US$7K -- ouch!), but my usual HT dealer can get it for me for S$10.5K (around US$6.1K). Still seems a lot more than what you guys would pay in the US, though.

I'm not positive but I'm relatively certain you can get the Fujitsu 42 inch HD PDP for less than the PIO, no? If that's the case It would certainly be on the top of my list. I've seen them both (although not in my home) and I thought the Fujitsu had similar color but with better black levels. The Fujitsu is actually pretty close to the 6UY with its blacks. I own a Panny 42" and love it, but if I had to pick a second choice (at a much higher price point!) I'd go with the Fujitsu in a heartbeat. I don't like the no online sales thing either, but they are truly awesome displays.
