Can anyone give me any pointers on tweaking my Pioneer Elite DV-38A to get the best possible picture? I am going in to a Toshiba 56H80 via Component. (switching through my Pioneer Elite 37TX Receiver).

I really cant notice a picture quality difference between this and my low end sony at the moment.

Any help is apprecaited.

Thanks

I can think of 2 suggestions:
Have you calibrated your display with Video Essentials, Avia, or the new S&V disc?
Have you had ISF out to calibrate your display?
Could be, that might make a difference.
Power conditioning may help too. I personally am a big fan of balanced power. Equi=Tech, Furman, Smart, PS Audio, BPT, and Monster has a new one (the 7000 I think).
All of the above may make the differences between the 2 DVD players more apparent. Or not! :) YMMV...
Also, personally, I would go direct from the DVD player if you can.

Thanks for the info, i picked up S&V today and i'll give it a shot tonight!
I'll also try going direct in with the cabling and see if that helps.
I'm going to set up an appointment with one of the guys that tours around the country to do the professional calibration. He just doesnt get to spokane until august though. :frowning:
Thanks again for the tips!!

Of course, there *might be* another explanation... :)
Maybe there *isn't* that much difference between the 2 players.
I had an early generation Sony, and I have a Pioneer Elite DV-05 now. Much prefer the Pioneer myself. ;)

Not that its a huge difference but, if at all possible I'd try and avoid going through the reciever. Yes its a convience but it also adds another link in the degradation chain.
