I bought a Pioneer DVF07 300 disc DVD changer from U Bid.Paid $629.00 inc shipping. It was a factory refurbished unit. Just my luck, it was still defective and I sent it back today.
After playing with it a few days, I don't think I want another. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there does not seem to be a way to program the changer to remember the discs that I want to keep in DTS mode.I must press the audio button on the remote each time to take it out of Dolby Digital, and switch to DTS every time I turn the player off.It also does not pass over the FBI warning and "play disc"prompt. I must press enter to continue. It does not change to the next DVD without going through this each time. The joystick remote is not easily transferred to a universal remote.
Should I expect these programing gripes from all mega changers? I want it to remember the discs I play as DTS, and move on to the next disc without my touching the remote.
Is there another changer that might meet my needs? One hundred disc would be fine.
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

Many megachangers out there leave a lot to be desired. I don't think there is anything out there that will remember you audio choices. I also am still waiting for the definitive DVD megachanger.

My wants are the following:

1- Easy navigation between discs
2- Setting defaults for any disc in the unit
3- Progressive scan for future use

I could care less about this networking between units like Kenwood Sovereign unless some company makes great strides in working out the bugs.

This is just another reason to hate the way most DVDs are formatted by going to the menus on default instead of going straight to the movie and ending when the movie is over- if I had a changer I would want it to be able to play every disc straight through with no button-pushing!

Is it so difficult for the manufacturers to get past the FBI intro? Perhaps my annoyance should be directed at the DVD makers.

If your into computers you might want to check out a post going on over at Hometheatertalk and his name is J Gonzalez. He's talking about tranferring all of his movies to his computers hard drive. By doing so, he labeled all these advantages over a DVD mega-changer:
Some of the advantages I see going harddrive v. jukebox:
1. Less wear and tear than a mechanical jukebox.
2. User interface that is more user friendly than a jukebox user interface.
3. Portability, I've got a 160GB portable firewire drive that is about 1/20th the size of a DVD Jukebox. Perfect for long trips, jukebox is impractical for travel.
4. By going to a harddrive, I can prevent damage to my original discs.
5. Skipping and mis-tracking becomes a non-issue, especially during travel.
6. HTPC use.
7. Speed involved in selecting a movie.
The disadvantages I see with this is money and time. Especially since a single movie can take up several gigs and if you have a large library you can expect to buying multiple hard drives.
TIME..I have transfered a DVD movie to my hard drive and boy did it take alot of time.
If anyone is interested here the link to the post

You just need to push the condition memory button after you make your audio choice and start the dvd.
