I saw the Pioneer DV59AVI (DVD player/recorder) given incredible hype on a recent Yahoo video. It sounds fabulous even with a list of $1600. Does anyone own one and/or have an opinion on whether it is worth the price? I am trying to reconcile my budget with wanting the best of everything.

Peter,

Since nobody has chimed in, I'll help you as best as I can.

The 59AVi is not a recorder. The feature that most sets it apart is its HDMI capability. Through that output the player will upconvert to 720p.

I've only set it up once this way. The display was the PRO-1110. I was impressed, but it was not a life-changing experience. My client is VERY pleased, however. That is ultimately all I care about.

The recorder/player is the DVR-57H. It is also a TiVo w/ basic TiVO included (I think). I've only installed one. I've heard no complaints. (Connected via component video to a DWIN projector.)

The HDMI alone might be worth the 59AVi. You could almost certainly find for less money.

Good luck to you. I hope I helped.

Regards,
Rico

This is strange. I don't normally post.
