I know this was answered before, but I can't seem to find it....

Besides the IEEE1394 interfaces, what are the differences between the players?

Sam, do a search, as this has been discussed before. The two players use different DACs. As I recall, the '47A uses Crystal DACs, while the '47Ai uses Burr-Brown DACs. I may not have this quite right, but I know they use different DACs.

    Here I go again....

    the Pioneer 47Ai:

Burr Brown Dacs (47A had Crystal)
weighs 2 1/2 lbs more than 47A, which was around 9 1/2 lbs
    excellent enhanced GUI
    ilink
    full bass management

Both the 47a and 47ai now use Burr Brown Dacs.

James, what do you mean by this? Wasn't the '47A replaced by the '47Ai? Pioneer isn't making both, or are they?

    Keith,

I stand corrected. Having worked a night shift, my brain has left the building. I was confusing the new 45A with the older 47A.

I just received a DV-47Ai and I am delighted with it's performance, coupled to the 49TXi.

One difference I have noticed between the 47Ai and the 47A is that the Ai does not have a "Last Memory" function and "Condition Memory" function accessible on the remote. I am basing this on the August Widescreen Review of the 47A, which said that the "Last Memory" bookmark of up to 5 DVDs and "Condition Memory" of up to 15 DVDs was very valuable.

It seems strange that Pioneer would leave this out of the updated 47Ai.

Am I missing these functions? Has any other 47Ai owner noticed this?

    Don,

You are not missing these. Pioneer took away these functions from 47Ai.

Neither the 47ai or the 45a has full bass management. Same as the 47a: SACD but not DVD-A:

We already know that the Marantz 8300 is the same, and presumably the Onkyo and Integra as both of those are also based on the Pioneer. The Yamaha 2300 is the only universal player that *may* have complete bass management.
