I was browsing an on-line retailer site today and found a Pink Panther Box set coming out in R2 land on Nov 14th. The specs are wonderful - some top quality extras and I'm hoping the discs are 16:9.

Does anyone have any further info... will this be a UK exclusive? MGM seem to do a lot of UK exclusives. A Misery SE is out in a few weeks!

All six Sellers movies, or all eight movies (including 'Curse' and 'Son of')?

Either way, I want this. In R1, since I don't have a region-free player yet...

It says seven disc set - 6 movies, plus abonus disc of documentaires and the best of the animated episodes!

I hope it's the Doc that aired on Channel 4 in the UK in summer 2002.

It's an outstanding set from what I hear. Panther fans will be happy

Misery has been out in Australia for months, MGM REALLY needs to stop doing all these UK exclusives

I wrote MGM about the pink panther films on DVD about a year ago. The rep said something like 'Curse of the pink panther' and 'son of the pink panther' didn't do to well, and that they didn't have much interest in releasing them. But I sure hope they come out, I love those films. It's also a problem to release a box set, because 'The Return Of The Pink Panther' was released through Artisan.

..and to further confuse you, although United Artists is the copyright holder of "Return...", Carlton International Media (which owns the ITC library) holds the underlying rights. At present, Artisan indeed holds the video rights to the ITC/Carlton library.

Well also don't forget about 'Inspector Clouseau' Starring Alan Arkin as Clouseau... I think you'd have to include that, though I've only ever seen it once on TBS it was a scope film like the rest. I have curse and trail in 2.35 from TCM, but SE DVDs would be nice, im not planning to get the bare bones current releases, a set is a must

Please, PLEASE let's forget INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU. That's one piece of film history I wouldn't mind disappearing forever...

The boxed set sounds great, though. I was only aware of the first being released as a special edition. I'm glad it's a whole set.

Jeff, is this set due for an R1 release too? While I'm in the UK, I'd much prefer to swoop on the US set, if there is one.

Jeff -

If there's one thing that pisses me off it's hearing RI DVD buyers complaining about R2 "exclusives". One of these days, I'm going to post a thread on the main forum so R2 members can list all the many hundreds of ways we get stiffed on DVD compared to R1, and that won't even cover the basic fact that we pay at least a third more for our discs overall.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry ; on the few occasions we get DVDs before you, when they finally do make it to R1 they've picked up a few more extras along the way.

No offence to you in particular, Jeff :) - it's just something that hacks me off.

Blake Edwards has always said that he has loads of wonderful outtakes--I hope these will eventually see the light of day.

You are welcome to post a link to the website
that is selling the disc.

We only frown upon individuals that post links
to commercial websites that benefit them.

I'm interested in looking over this set. Quite
interesting that all these would be packaged
together as Artisan and MGM split the release
rights on specific titles, if I remember correctly.
The Artisan releases are not good, as you would
expect.

But of course, Play don't ship to the US, so if you want to buy it, you'll have to find another supplier. :)
