Pillarboxing problem (1 Viewer)

Hi!

My DVD-player won't allow me to watch films in 1.66:1. I don't know if it's my DVD or my TV that causes this problem.

My TV is a wide-screen 16:9, and my DVD is set to 16:9, but then I have to choose the View mode, here's the alternatives: Fill, Original, Height Fit, Width Fit, Auto Fit och Pan Scan.

Does anyone know hat to do? I tried to watch the film on my computer with a 4:3 screen and then the picture was windowboxed, just as I wanted it to be.

The disc I'm trying to watch is anamorpic but, that doesn't make any difference, or?

For a wide screen (16:9) TV you set the DVD player to 16:9 period. (The other choices are 4:3 letterbox and 4:3 pan/scan.).

You then choose whichever zoom or fit or aspect ratio setting looks best using the TV remote.

A program put on an anamorphic DVD as 1.66:1 will have some side bars pre-recorded on it.

A CRT TV or an RPTV may have overscan, that might lop off all of the side bars of a 1.66:1 program (and also some of the top and bottom) giving you the impression you are seeing "only" 16:9 (1.78:1).

Just because the original aspect ratio was 1.66:1 and the DVD is anamorphic does not guarantee that the program was not butchered or morphed to be recorded as 16:9 exactly.
