I recently purchased a new Sony KV-32HS420. It is, of course, a direct view CRT. The PQ is great and the features are great.[IMG]

However, today I was watching a DVD in letterbox. When I noticed the far left of the picture was higher than the right edge. The difference is about 1/8 in. Enough to be noticeable. I placed another DVD in and got the same result.[IMG]

Is this normal? If not can it be adjusted? Will I have to have a technician out to take a look at it? Could it be the DVD player? Worst case scenario, will I need a new set(assuming the set can't be fixed easily)?

    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.[IMG]

You wil need to go into the service menu and make some adjustments. You will also need a calibration disk like VE or Avia. Do some searches on google.

Amazing picture, but I don't understand why they have this issue.

Most of those sets have a "tilt" adjustment in the regular menu under setup. Did you try that? That said , many flat screen TV's have geometry issues that are unresolvable.

Thanks, Tilt was the key word. I was able to look it up in the manual immediately. I made the adjustment and corrected the tilt.

Sorry for the simplistic question. And thanks for the help.

Now I can't help but look for imperfections.

Yes, their is almost NO TV that is perfect out of the box (especially Fat Screen Direct Views).
My Samusng 3295hf that just died did not (had to go into service menu and tweak) and I imagine the Sont KVHS420 being delivered to morrow to replace it needs to be tweaked via service menu as well.
