I am trying to decide whether or not to get a pioneer elite, denon, or onkyo reciever.

Pioneer elite VSX-01THX or VSX-90TXV or VSX-91TXH

Denon AVR-2808CI or AVR-889

Onkyo sr-606 or sr-706

The most I am looking to spend is about $600. Each of those listed I can get for about that much if not a little less. This is going to be my first reciever buy besides having a few home theaters systems in a box, which made me realize, I need a quality system.

Like I said it was probably going to be monitor 7's or 9's for fronts, cc-290 center, adp-190's for surround, not sure about the sub yet though.

I answered your other post, but what you really want is harmon kardon if your matching it to paradigm. Yes on papaer HK looks like less but when you listen to the match your ears will tell the difference.

Sorry, didn't see your other thread (or wherever you mentioned the monitors)....

Just wanted to clarify since some receivers struggle with 4 ohm speakers.

I currently have an Onkyo 705 and really like it. I think the 706 would be great for you. The other brands are also quite good, so it may come down to which one you get the best deal on.

If you haven't chosen a sub yet, I urge you to check out the SVS line up.

yeah I was thinking something of that line, not sure which one though. I want something that has some serious bass but don't want to end up buying another sub in the future.

I wasn't sure which sub to pick from. I wanted to try to make my own box and such but don't have the funds for just a sub. What sub would you recommend for about $600? I want as much bass as I can possibly get and sound really good doing it.

Most guys here would recommend SVS subs. I think they have one or two in your price range, plus I think there are some used ones floating around here.

You can probably make your own for $600 and get a better sub in the process. There are a few folks here that can help you. If you don't get any hits on this thread, ask about building your own in the speaker/sub forum.

Otherwise, get the best SVS you can afford. Check their B-Stock as sometimes they have bargains.
