want to know where there are any photography forums for beginning to advanced users. my g/f wants to possibly make a career out of it and would like to get some advice. any links, etc will be appreciated.

Photo.net has some good pointers/instructions for the budding photographer. I don't know how many professionals hang out there, but those people will be able to point you in the right direction.
