And 4K HDR Blu-ray Player

LAS VEGAS, January 6, 2016 – Underscoring its commitment to offer a comprehensive and advanced lineup of 4K products, Philips today announced a significant expansion of its 4K TV line, the availability of HDR in every 2016 4K set, and plans to launch an HDR-compatible 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player this spring for under $399.99.

Philips has seven new 4K Ultra HD Smart TVs for 2016, each including HDR, or High Dynamic Range, to provide a striking improvement in brightness, contrast and color performance. I've never thought of Philips as being a high quality TV or bluray player brand. Anyone care to share opinions?

I don't think I have ever....or will ever....consider a Philips as a display or Blu-ray choice.

When was the last time anyone has?

Back when(during the same time RCA still made their TV) Philips was good stuff.

I'm surprised they didn't brand these Magnavox, unless that as a brand is just dead.

Interesting news - been hoping for a release date for the next one up in the range the 65PUS9600. They have been talking about it since the Berlin IFA back in September and it looks to have the range topping options that should please enthusiasts. It was delayed until the HDR standards were finalised for CES but strange that there is no news now...

Philips distribution and even the manufacturing and design has changed several times in the US over the past 20 years. Most recently Funai Electric, Japan has owned the Philips brand name. For 2016 Funai has decided to make Philips the premium brand it enjoyed when there CE products were built by Philips in Holland.

I spend a lot of time with Philips at CES and their flagship LCD/LED TV looks very nice. It's a full array locally dimmed back-lit panel. They also introduced the only laser 4K TV and it also looks very good. Their 4K Ultra HD BD player is a high quality build with a solid aluminum chassis. The pre-launch promotion at $399 is a nice way to get into Ultra HD Blu-ray at a reasonable cost. But for those who want to be among the first to enjoy 4K BD Samsung is scheduled to launch the 1st Ultra HD BD player around mid March.

I built a .pdf data sheet with as many specs that I could learn from the product manager at CES. Check it out here.

Robert, we can pre-order the philips blu-ray player through you? If so that would be awesome. I don't even have the TV yet but i will in a couple of months probably.

I knew Funai made Philips(essentially..."what former TV great brand, that no longer actually makes it anymore...") and others.

But was unaware Funai actually owned the brand. Means Philips CE and RCA are under the same ownership.

Funai Electric LTD, Japan owns the Philips name only for use in North and South America. Funai is a well respected CE manufacturer in Japan and they make a lot of DIRECTV equipment and Lexmark printers as well as many other CE products. Funai is a family owned and operated business. They design and manufacturer high quality electronic devices.

I know all that.

Funai also makes Recoton and some Audiovox(for Audiovox Klipsch).

I just wasn't aware Funai "owned" Philips in this market. Thought they just ODM'd.

Seems to be a lot of coverage of 4k televisions but they are all LCD. Has there been any comment on OLED developments?
At CES today, LG announced 4 new 4K OLED series for 2016.

- B6, flat 55" and 65", no 3D and no price or launch date at this time.

- C6, curved 55" and 65", Passive 3D, and no price or launch date at this time.

- E6, flat 55" and 65", new elegant "Picture on Glass Design, like the G6 Signature Series, but not as thin and only planned for 55" and 65". Passive 3D, not as thin as the G6 signature series. 65" is the only model/size that is available to order now at $6,999 and will be the first to launch, but no exact allocation date at this moment.

Check out my new dedicated E6 page with more details.

- G6, is the Flagship Signature Series flat, 65" and 77", Passive 3D, 1/10" thick, or should I say thin. Passive 3D and no price or launch date at this time.

LG will also keep the 55EG9100 in the line for 2016.

Anything in particular that you want to know about LG's CES 2016 announcement of 4 new 4K OLED series TVs?

the LG OLED 65E6P went up a couple days ago on Amazon for pre-order: $6999.99... I see you show the G6 at that price. I'd almost bet the G6 will be higher than that.

Sorry, my mistake, ^^ the 65E6 is available for pre-order at $6,999 and is the only 2016 4K OLED that has a price announced at this time.

Thanks for the info on the new LG OLED's Robert, but it probably warrants a separate thread rather than burying it in a thread dedicated to Philips products. Maybe one of the mods can help you move posts starting with 15 to its own thread.
