I have a coworker with a Philips DVD 712. His player will not play VCDs properly. Philips acknowledges that this is a defect, but he's gone beyond his 30-day free service warranty, and has enterred into a reduced-fee warranty. Philips wants him to send his DVD player in along with $40 for this DEFECT to be repaired.
Does this sound right?
Is there any way to surmount this?
Does anyone know if there might be a software fix floating around the net to deal with it instead?
I generally had recommended Philips as I've had good luck with them, but this warranty situation is just WRONG, IMHO. I think the vendor should take care of manufacturing defects for free. Even if they are noticed on day 31.
