I always wondered why that song wasn't longer. They make a big to-do over it and then almost as soon as it begins, it's over. I'm glad we'll finally be seeing the whole thing.

Hopefully, a certain big-eared mouse will hear about this and respond accordingly…

Portobello Road extended is just a tad too long.

The edits on the short version are painfully obvious and the dissolves were not necessary. Either way, that same mentality carried over here to this movie. All because of some teenage boys who complained. Whenever the studio starts demanding stuff gets cut, invariably it's musical numbers that suffer the worst of it.

10 mins is a bit long for a dance number don't you think.

Compared to this?

Addams Family Values also has a cut song*: the Camp Chippewa anthem:

*And speaking of names that movie dropped, if they can find that, then hopefully Columbia knows where this is.

That number is longer than 10 minutes. WB tried fiddling with it only to find it was better off before they started fiddling with it. That's why they put it back.

Such is the case here. IIRC the cuts were made after Paramount picked up the film from Orion who went into bankruptcy. Would they have acted any differently? Who knows.

Paramount gives you a choice. The rat took it away.

I always meant to pick up the blu-ray but luckily didn’t. Will be glad to pick this up on 4K and just in time for Halloween!

Watched this tonight and felt quite impressed - it looks better than I would've expected.

The longer "Mamushka" is fun but not essential, IMO...

Viewed it today. The colors and clarity are superb, it looks way better than it did on screens in '91. You could tell they had every intention of taking advantage of the 4k format. Sound is amazing, too. The "Mamushka" is a joy to finally see. This is one that drove the fans crazy for 30 years because we all knew about it. It's never even been offered as a deleted scene.

The "More Mamushka" cut is offered here as an extra. You do at last get the complete musical number, but it sacrifices that scene where Tully has a brief chat with Dr. Pinderschloss. That scene was probably just junk that Barry didn't want there in the first place; he had to put something in there to cover up the cut number, which I believe was dropped just prior to wide release.
