So, this is my favorite science fiction film of all time

My favorite Christopher Nolan film

I am not a fan of box-o-junk offerings. That being said, there is a lot of additional bonus material here that fans may be interested in.

The existing 4k release already looks fantastic. There is nothing new here as far as the transfer is concerned. The ultimate dream would be for a Dolby Atmos track, but Nolan is vehemently against the audio format.

Ron, maybe later they will release the less junk...ah, collectables, yeah that's the ticket, yeah!! Less "Collectibles" Edition...?

The additional Blu-ray with extra material is welcome here, and I would probably have considered purchasing this a second time with just that inclusion.

And, I don't mean to thread crap. It looks like a nice set (the box alone is beautiful), but the inclusion of what many of us joke as being "junk" drives up the price point considerably (currently $70).

So, yes, for me, a Less Collectibles Edition would have been preferred.

To be clear, it looks like the same bonus features Blu-ray as the prior release, with just a new featurette on the tenth anniversary being added.
The Future Is Now: A Look Back at INTERSTELLARNEW!

That’s the only thing that’s new. The rest of the features listed have been available since the original disc release.

Without a review to state whether this is an extensive bonus feature or merely a few more minutes, I’m unlikely to buy it again. They may even wind up adding that feature to the digital copy on iTunes I already have.

On the other hand, for fans who love the swag and don’t already own the film, this could be an attractive set.

Josh,

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't look at the back of the current release and compare the added content specified in the press release.

The press release made it sound like Nolan was personally involved with this special set and that there would be a wealth of newly approved material.

So, this is the same transfer and mostly the same bonus content from the original release.

Same disc.

To be clear: same 4K and BD movie discs. Special features disc has been reauthored to include a new bonus feature along with legacy bonus materials. Original movie disc was director-supervised and A+ quality; absolutely no reason to redo.

I would like to see the new 10th anniversary documentary. That sounds interesting. However, I don't think it is reason enough on its own to upgrade from the original steelbook release I already have. So I think I'll pass.

I have to wonder how large that market is. How many people love Interstellar enough to want to pay for an expensive box set with swag and don't already own the movie? It seems like fans who would be interested in the swag probably picked up a previous disc release.

I guess Paramount will find out how this sells.

How about an actual, complete soundtrack? No games this time, just the music. Or is Hans Zimmer vehemently opposed to that?

not for Switching Aspect Ratio hater like me. I'll just stick to DVD and keep buying same format replacements when my current disc rots... until the day comes, if WARNER puts out the "cinematic presentation edition" that sticks to widescreen 2.39:1 ratio.

For the record, Interstellar is a Paramount release in the United States. WB handled the international release. But the decision doesn't come from Paramount or Warner. It comes from Christopher Nolan. As the filmmaker, it is his choice how he wants his film to be presented.

I would also prefer a consistent aspect ratio Blu-ray. But I respect his right to make the decision regardless.

Apparently he is as the last "expanded" edition was just the previous one with the bonus suites from the limited starchart box (or whatever that thing was called) thrown in. There are some bootlegs that incorporate the tracks from the FYC Oscars disc to make it virtually complete (if you don't mind a faulty rip of Quantifiable Connection that is...).

Thank you, Tino, ordered! I was on the verge of taking up pipe organ lessons as a workaround.

I never got my hands on that "Illuminated Star Projection Edition," with music proclaimed to be not available anywhere (as though that's some great virtue to extol). Whatever. Nor would that thing be terribly practical in my car.

Funny how my brain works: That just triggered a memory of someone else's car having a Michael Jackson "Thriller" tape cassette unspooled on the floor from being eaten on a hot day in the early 80's. And I remember looking at that, horrified. Like, how do you not take care of your music collection?!
