    Game will cost $39.99.

First two months of online play will be free.

After that, $8.95 a month to play [IMG]

Apparently, you can't play the offline portion without having a XboxLive account either. Interesting...

    And so it begins. (td)

I'm hoping this is an error. Why is SEGA charging a use fee for games being played on Microsoft servers? Or are they not being played that way?

I guess they're hoping that you have an XBL account to play the game offline so that if you go online, your XBL GamerTag won't be taken by someone else and you won't need to change it or anything. You can just use it in PSO offline, and then use it online.

Either way, that sucks that you have to have XBL to play it AT ALL and you need to pay to play it online. I seem to remember a time when people were saying "you won't need to pay for the X-Box version of PSO to go online." Hmm...

I wasn't clear, Romier. I know it's got an offline mode. I'm curious about the requirement that you /must/ have an active XBL account to play it offline. As odd as it sounds, there are people out there who'd buy it & not take it online, especially with the 4 player mode.

I expected the charge for online, but a charge for offline? That's damned weird.

    And not good.

Well this is certainly an onion in the ointment. But, looking back on PSO for the Dreamcast I think 90% of my time with the game was in the first 2 months. I'll still pick this up, get the 2 months out of it and cancel after that. It'll be fun getting the OAR Avengers back together again.[IMG]

I had already switched over to broadband when this originally came out on the DC. I'll definately give this a spin, at least for the first 2 months.

    Ripoff![IMG]

I'm surprised more of us aren't upset about this. One of the great promises of Live was the $50 flat fee (though I'm sure this will go up and likely change). Count me out.[IMG]

Well if the Xbox version works like the DC version the CD key gets attached to your Xbox.

I'm with Rob Pierce, I hope this idea flops...if it doesn't it means that you could end up paying MS for the privelidge to pay someone else to play online.

So let me get this straight. We're supposedly paying Microsoft for XBlive to host games on their servers.

Then we find out in games like Ghost Recon that it's actually peer-to-peer and slower connectors result in 4 player games instead of what should be larger, lag-free games.

Then it turns out that promised downloadable content is nowhere to be found.

Then EA backs off because they want to run their own servers.

Now this (fees on top of the XBlive service fee).

So what, exactly, are we paying for, other than a $50 headset?
