Hi all. I know some of us used to get together for PSO, (my name was Dodekahedron) and was wondering if anyone had planned on getting PSO 2. I was going to, but then Sega instituted the pay-to-play deal. I know $15 for 3 months isn't a big deal, but what bugs me is sega is charging $40 for the game, which from what has been reported, is PSO1 with different texture maps. (I.E. the dragon is now a lizard.) I dunno, I'm just not nearly as pumped for this as I was for PSO. I may just wait for the GameCube version, once they get their online plans worked out.

Hey Jason,
I remember the good old days of all of us HTF'ers getting on and playing phantasy star online (I was AX). I had a good time playing it but finally just got a little tired of it. I was considering getting PSO V2 but when Sega announced the pay for play that definitely solidified my not buying the game. The price of any games these days is enough. I refuse to pay to play any game. I recently bought Anarchy Online on my PC to see if that could hook up me and although the server issues are all but fixed I still cant bring myself to pay 12.95 for that game either.
What's funny is Sega is now dumping Seganet (their ISP) all together. All Seganet subscribers will be moved over to Earthlink (I'm a Network Operations Technician for them) and Sega will start charging for content now. So you can look forward to all Sega online games being pay for play.

I've been playing PSOv1 constantly since the day it came out, and will be getting v2. I had thought about importing, but it seems like such a hassle getting everything to work.

There is a new difficulty level (Ultimate) that uses the same levels, but with different monsters, but for me, the big thing is being able to reach level 200. I have 2 lvl 100 characters, and should reach 100 with 2 more pretty soon. It's frustrating when you can't move up any more.

By the way, the Gamecube version will be pretty much the same as the DC version, except with the ability to have a 4 player split screen. Lots of rumors regarding the online status too - the "online" aspect hasn't been stated as fact yet(!). But the split screen would be great for transferring items between characters. :)

What's most insulting about the price is that Sega first delays the game waaaay too long, and then charges us more than what they charge in the Japanese market, even though usage is so clogged that Japanese users play on US servers.

I've been thinking about some PC online games, but I can't really get into that tiny isometric view. Is Anarchy Online stable yet? How's the game? I was thinking of looking into that, but the release was so botched that I decided to hold off for a while.

I was one of the gang of HTF PSOers.... :)
I'm not real interested in v2 until it hits GameCube, tho. Got too many other things to play right now...

One of the best online gaming ideas I heard was Squaresoft making FFXI be about $30 and having a small monthly fee for ALL PlayOnline services. I'm not sure if those will stick, but I hope they do.
PlayOnline is Square's online gaming service. All of their games will be played on it, plus you can do other things like chat, surf the web, and update stats for sports games. There is supposed to be a special modem for it, but it isn't required.

With the current state of Square's financials, I'm sure they'll end up doing everything they can to bleed the punters for money

Sniff, we're all back together at last :)
I know I'm probably not going to get v.2, until it gets clearanced with all the other DC software (not a good thing mind you). What they SHOULD have done is to offer all PSO 1 users the game for $25 thru Sega, you type in your serial number and that confirms you owned the first one. THEN I would have paid the $15
Anyone up for playing tonight? :) What was our old place? Miranda blk4 lobby 7?

I just read that Square will be saving characters on ther servers, rather than memory cards, which makes me verrry happy. No more corrupted save files, no more hacked characters (ok, hopefully less?). I can't wait. :)

Jeff, I never thought of waiting for it to hit the clearance bins. I think I'm gonna just wait for that, too. I wish Sega would have offered Ver. 2 direct to the people already online and playing Ver. 1. for a discounted price, but we all know Sega has to milk whatever they can out of the DC while they can.
Oh, I highly doubt I'll be able to sign on tonite (stuck at work, and summer school mid-term is due,)but if I get the time I'll sign on, probably around midnite Central time. Otherwise, perhaps this weekend...anybody else gonna be around?
