I figured it out very quickly, by reading the Javascript code.

Cheat!

I'm technically-challenged. Since you didn't figure it out conventionally, I guess you're not bound by the "oath", so any hints?

I figured it out, without looking at the javascript code (which I can figure out if I wanted to)....

Neat!

Now that I know the solution, the javascript code must be fairly simply (Maybe this is a hint!)

Jay

P.S. I'm still an idiot.

Moderate hint:

This puzzle is more visual than mathematical, check the link to the Bill Gates story, that's really a good way to help solve this puzzle

I looked at the JavaScript code. Seeing the answer, I still don't know how rose petals figure in.

Here's the answer for you cheaters

For every 3 rolled, add 2.
For every 5 rolled, add 4.
Do this 10 times in a row and the message is "Congratualtions! We have another Potentate of the Rose."

I haven't cheated.... yet... But I get the feeling it's a simple solution. Just when I think I've figured it out...

I cheated. Although I don't know Java, I managed to figure it out. I suppose some elementary knowledge of 80s Basic helped there.

DaveF:-
The rose is the centre pip. Even numbers have no centre pip, hence score 0. A "1" has no "petals" around it, whilst "3" has 2 and a "5" has 4, hence the scores 0, 2 and 4 respectively. At least that's how I figure the name of the game, YMMV.
