Glen Mazzara seems to be adapting Book IV - Wizard & Glass of the Dark Tower for Amazon Prime. Josh Boone is doing The Stand as a 10 episode limited series for CBS All Access.

With an estimated $25 million opening weekend, the 3X rule should propel it to about $75 million. However that C+ Cinemascore won’t help so I think it will probably top out about $65 million. Certainly not in “IT” territory.

    An okay adaptation.

    I liked the ending.

Movie's biggest fault is its failure to make an emotional connection to the characters and the rush through the tragic events of the story to get to the third act.

I haven't seen this new film, but as a big Stephen King fan, when movie adaptations of his fail, it's usually due to this. King has a reputation as a horror writer, but that doesn't mean he has only throwaway characters to further the plots of his stories. He takes his time and gets you to care (or at least be genuinely interested in) each of the main characters. Which then evokes an emotional response when the "horror" part kicks in. When you think of the best adaptations of his works--Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, It (2018), Misery--they don't skimp on focusing on the main characters and their backstories.

    You were right Malcom.

As of today it’s at $54.7 million.

A little less than half it’s gross was from its opening weekend. A 2x multiplier.
