[rant]Oh my gawd that gets my goat everytime I hear people say that. It's not a DVD, it's a damn DVD PLAYER!!!! I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it. It's like calling your CD player a 'CD.' Or your VCR a 'Tape.' I hate it when people do this. Did I mention that I hate it when people do this? A 'DVD' is the software that you insert in your 'DVD Player.'[/rant]

See "One Night At McCools" for major reference to this.

How do you guys feel about this?

"Around 5 dollar to around 30 average"

    "what"

    "Wait a second...are you sure"

    " yeah..."

"You're telling me that those machines are only 30 dollars?"

" No sir you asked how much a Digital Video Disc was. Thats how much they are"

" Well I meant the machine"

" Do you walk into Blockbuster and ask where they keep the vcr's"

    " You gettin smart?"

    " Sigh"

Call me crazy for actually enjoying "One Night at McCool's", but calling the DVD player 'DVD' was the only part of that movie I didn't like. It really got on my nerves.

You forgot my favorite..."We done bought us a satellite!" I can't tell you how many times my slack-jawed relatives have told me this. Hey dumbass...it's a "satellite dish!" If you had the money to buy an actual satellite you wouldn't be living in a trailer.

p.s. Please no complaints about stereotyping. I'm referring to my actual relatives here. They really are that dumb!

Brad, I hear you man. My mom, who is technologically challenged, refers to my DVD player as a DVD all of the time. What's even worse is that my sister bought my mom her first CD player, and she keeps referring to her CDs as tapes. I correct her so many times that she gets pissed off at me!

Reminds me a bit of the Circuit City salesman who tried to sell my friend a DVD player with DIVX. He had a middle eastern accent which made it sound all the more funny.

"You need the one with The DIVX."

"No, no, you want one with The DIVX."

"Yes, but that one doesn't have The DIVX."

    The DIVX, indeed...

I guess that would get my goat too, if I had a goat. [IMG]
Actually, my peeve is similar, but not related to DVD. It drives me nuts when people say floppy DISK when they mean to say floppy DRIVE. See, the floppy DISK goes IN the floppy DRIVE, get it?? It gets gray though when it's shortened to just "floppy". I tend to use "floppy" to mean either the "disk" or the "drive", though I prefer to have "floppy" mean the disk, like "insert the floppy in the drive".

I agree that the scene in One Night At McCools bugged the crap out of me to. More annoying then that though is when my mom calls DVD's tapes.[IMG]

It annoys me when anything is referred to as something else, but what really annoys me is when someone refers to a DVD as a CD. "Did you get your CD?" "What CD, I didn't have a CD. Oh, you must be talking about my DVD!"

Reminds me of the episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond", in which his wife buys him a DVD player for Christmas.

Ray's Mom: "What's that, some sort of hi-fi?"

Ray's Mom, later: "Is that for pornography? I don't like that."

I HATE when people call VHS tapes "Videos". I used to bug video stores that didn't have laserdiscs, asking what kind of video store they were, and they said "Yeah, we have VIDEOS, not laserdiscs!"
