AO Scott was way off base. Haven't read Roeper's review. That's a shame cause usually I like AO best of the NYT critics. The film really benefits from an audience though, moreso than one might expect.
I think those 2 reviewers missed out on the fairy tale aspect, and tried to take it much more literal than it was intended. But it is much longer than it needed to be in running time.
After having seen the movie in October, I had my second viewing today. Thought there might have been a few changes since the Austin Film Fest, but I can't be sure. Nothing has changed for me. I loved the book and I have loved every minute of both times I've sat through Perfume. The other 6 people in the theater were good little silent companions. Not too long for me. Probably too short.
Third screening. Ice storm in Central Texas today. No one else in the theater. It just doesn't get any better than that. Too bad more people didn't discover this film while it was in theaters. I'm confident that it will become more popular upon DVD release. I did my best.
I finally got around to watching this film and found it to be interesting.
Morbid film, but one that has its moments. Beautifully filmed regardless of content. I also really enjoyed the score. I thought it matched the scenes very very well.
Found it interesting that everyone that made money off the dude, had a tragic 'accident.'
One thing though (and I haven't read the book), why didn't Laura scream when she saw him over her bed?
