I noticed the single DVD version of Patton is out. I'm assuming that it's the same transfer as the previous, but thought I'd toss out the question just in case.

I have the 2 disc set and there is a fair bit of shimmering to the picture (which I hate), so I would upgrade for a better one.

Similar to how Anchor Bay releases their limited editions. Basically its the first disc in the two disc set packaged in a single disc case.
    Got that?

Suprising, When I view Patton on my JVC progressive scan player it plays with a very film like picture, no shimmering at all. Patton is an excellent transfer.

FYI, the second disc of PATTON had the "Making of" with the soundtrack as a 2nd audio track.

    Rain,

do you have an interlaced display?

If they didn't apply much vertical filtering (ala Titanic), then the disc would produce more shimmering than usual on an 480 interlaced display, but none in 480P. It would also be a more detailed transfer in 480P than a "filtered" 480P image.
