Does anyone know the feasibility of patenting a business system? I think I've come up with a unique way of doing business and would like to protect it from competitors if possible. The idea relates to the gas monitor industry.

The PTO has been issuing "business model" patents in the last few years. You will need to discuss the details with a patent attorney, or research the subject in detail on your own. DO NOT DISCUSS YOUR INVENTION IN PUBLIC OR YOU MAY WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS.

You also need to consider whether it is really cost effective to patent it. Would this business practice be apparent and copy-able once implemented? Is it cheaper to employ this method, keeping it secret from competitors so they can't copy you? Or is it cheaper to patent it and possibly pay legal fees when you sue someone who copies it, since you've explained how do it in your patent?
