I wanted to create my own specialty cable with nice connectors and braided sleaving, but I wanted to know if there was a web site that a good selection of attractive parts for custom cables.

Also if there was a common lingo for these parts. RCA connectors seems to broad.

There is diycable.com that sells kits. Tools are pretty much necessary to do much of the stuff depending on what connectors you use (and in some cases are not cheap). There are places like partsexpress.com markertek.com milestek.com haveinc.com partsconnexion.com and tons of others. Radio Shack carries stuff too.
