A couple of week ago I won a Parasound855 from ubid. Well, the old toot of the horn and I knew that it was here. After walking out to the steps the driver says to me,"Wow what's in here...BOSE!!!" "This sure is heavy", he stated. I didn't have the heart to tell him in the upcoming weeks he have to purchase a pulley system for his back...Swan Diva 6.1 package. Anyway, I was shocked...my jaw dropped and I thought to explain...but I decided to just let it go. At that moment I felt that heart dropping plunge and all lose of life was sucked out of me. Why has Bose been penetrated into every non audio fanboy that it is now such a misfortune to here that statement. Is this the failed attempt to bond with someone with a decent knowledge for audio gear? Bose this, Bose that...will it ever just dissipate?

What is with the elitism attitude. If someone likes Bose or thinks that Bose is great then let them think that. The whole point to Home Audio is to enjoy it. And if they are happy with their Bose then who cares, let them be HAPPY!

Because word of mouth is sometimes all we go on. I was suckered to say the least into a BOSE Aucust10 and I am now very bitter following this advice 4 years ago ;) Personally these speakers didn't deliver what I was expecting...and that my friend is my review.

I really do not think that an "elistist" attitude is being displayed. If anyone is elistist, it would be the Bose people. Bose equipment cost quite a bit of money. I think what you will find here (forum opinions) is that for much less money, you can obtain much better equipment. Sure, they might be happy with what they have, but they could be even happier with the better sound and the money in thier pockets! It all come down to knowledge, and that is why this board is here...to spread the knoweldge.

I totally understand that, and agree. But, the only reason I came to this forum was because I was very interested in Home Theater.

People that buy Bose never come to these type forums. Because if they did they wouldn't buy it. They buy Bose because Home theater for them is just something they want to have, but it is not a hobby. They just want to go to the store, pick it up, have easy install and enjoy. Bose offers that.

A perfect example is my roommate. He got a home theater package for Xmas one time. He didn't care about DTS, or better speakers, or his crossover frequencies. And most importantly of all, he had absolutely no interest in learning about it. It took a lot of badgering from me just to get him to connect the digital out port on his DVD player to the digital IN on his receiver to have DD. For two years he had this stuff and never once heard a DVD in DD. All he cared about was having a bunch of speakers and being able to turn it up loud. That's what 90% of the people want that go into Best buy.

To these people Best buy is the best electronics stores. And it we try to explain that just because Bose is the most expensive thing they carry, it is not the best, they wont care. Because to them hearing that there are other brands out there that you can only buy online, or have to drive to some specialty store is just to "elite" for them and they are happy with what Best buy has. And I understand where they are coming from. Because for a lot of my purchases I am the same way. If I want a new cell phone, or microwave, refrigerator or any of those things, I just want to go to best buy, buy one and go home. If someone tried to tell me to read about those things online, buy them online, or drive 45 minutes to a specialty store then I wouldn't listen, because those are not my hobbies and therefore not worth my time.

Bose has two big things going for it;
Marketing, that no other company seems to
have at the same level, and the tiny speakers
which appeal to people who love decor but have
tin ears. How often have you read a thread saying,
"Duh, my wife didn't like the idea of large speakers
in our living room." Sure, but there's plenty of room
for non-functional crap they call "knick knacks" and
other worthless "Home Shopping Network" junk.

For me it boils down to getting the best bang for my buck. In audio, BOSE is not it. I don't drive for a living, or look to cars for a hobby. But I still want the best bang for my buck, just like in audio. Whether it be my tires, gas, or the service my car needs, I want the best bang for my buck so to speak. Just because it's not my hobby, that doesn't mean I don't want to save money.

True. But how many times have you bought something in the past that you did not fully research? I'm sure that there has been quite a few things. Sure people would love to save money, but sometimes it's not important enough to them to spend a lot of time on it. So going to best buy, looking at the stuff, listening and buying in their price range is all they will want to do. That's why they usually get bose. I worked in best buy, the bose speaker room is usually the only room that worked completely, so it wasn't hard to see why most people thought those speakers sounded the best.

Another example was my car cd player. I didn't really care what kind I got, I just wanted one in a specific price range. If I saw that CC had it for a better price than BB then I would go there. But I didn't want to spend hours reading about it online, reading magazines, auditioning units and so forth. I didn't want to spend hours of time just to save a little money. I just wanted to get the hassle over with so I didn't have to think about it anymore.
