"Brilliantly Executed" with Proprietary DSP Engine Barry Willis calls the Parasound C2 "a brilliantly executed piece of technology" in Stereophile Guide to Home Theater for October 2003. "The C2 is future-forward in every respect and should find its place as the heart of many a high-performance home theater system." The Jan / Feb. 2004 Top Choice Awards issue of DVD ETC. magazine praises the Halo A51 multichannel amp and the Halo C2 surround sound processor for their "sonic performance, auto calibration, complete feature set, programmability and upgradeability." Parasound's Halo C2 THX Ultra 2-certified multichannel A/V controller features a breakthrough proprietary DSP engine. It decodes every surround sound format you can think of. And it delivers previously unattainable levels of performance and control, while remaining exceptionally easy to set up and operate. If you thought that Dolby Digital and DTS couldn't sound any better, wait until you hear how the world's most sophisticated DSP technology upgrades the performance. It lets you control your acoustic environment in ways never before possible. "Three years ago we asked a team of designers in the US, Finland and Norway to create an instrument of such exquisite refinement that it would truly be in a class by itself," said Parasound's president, Richard Schram. "The result has surpassed even my highest expectations, and it will have great appeal to audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts, who want to fine-tune their systems to within the last fraction of sonic perfection." 'Complete Alphabet' of Surround Sound Processing The Halo C2 provides the 'complete alphabet' of all the latest state-of the-art surround processing modes, while future processing modes will be available via an upgradeable processor and software. Effects modes include Dolby Digital EX, THX Ultra 2, THX Surround EX, DTS ES Discrete, Dolby Pro Logic II and four additional surround enhancements. Way Beyond 7.1-Channels The C2 takes surround sound beyond the boundaries of conventional 7.1 channel systems by augmenting its 7.1 channels with four additional programmable output channels. These four additional channels let you fine-tune the sound of your home theater system in ways that just aren't possible with the current generation of controllers. The programmable outputs consist of a second Subwoofer/LFE channel, a sub-20 Hz LFE bass channel to drive a tactile transducer "room shaker," and two completely customizable output channels. Each programmable channel has independent adjustments to mix its content from any or all of the eight main channels, plus adjustments for level and time-delay, and controls for high- and low-pass filters. Some possible configurations of these channels are for true stereo subwoofers, a dedicated rear-channel subwoofer, additional front or surround channels, mid-ceiling speakers for improved front-rear pans and improved spatial ambience, or mono channels for single speakers in adjacent rooms. The possibilities are just plain mindboggling! And so is the stunning sound quality. Connections and More As you might expect, the Halo C2 offers lots of connectivity. Three switchable high bandwidth component inputs can be paired with any audio input. Six composite video inputs and six S-Video inputs are also provided. One component video output, two composite video outputs, and two S-Video outputs are included. An RS-232 port is provided to interface with a home automation system or a Windows PC for set-up, control, and processor upgrades. Available Parasound HaloControl™ software lets you manage all the set-up and control functions, and to backup user settings. Other features include professional-grade balanced XLR audio and BNC video connections, two remote controls, and multi-zone capability.
