Any word on the status of Bertolucci's "The Conformist?" I think it was rumored to be in production last summer.

How about the Shogun mini-series?

The Conformist is on the schedule but I think it's 2003 not 2002 at the moment (things move). No plans on Shogun. Last I heard the original materials were in terrible shape.

Well, that puts it starkly. Very sad news. Someday, I hope that somehow there will be better news. Shogun has been my first highest hope for a TV-program-to-DVD since I first bought a DVD player.
Bright side: ST:TNG was my second highest hope.
