Mr. Blythe,
I would be interested in your reaction to this idea. Since it's been announced there are no plans to release the original Star Trek series in boxed sets, how about releasing a single or two-DVD set with extras only? This would be very similar to the upcoming "Matrix: Revisited" DVD.
You could include documentaries, interviews, screen tests, outtakes, bloopers, network promos, scripts, and so on. Am I missing anything?
You could even call it "Star Trek: Captain's Logs: Supplemental" or something like that.
This would complete a precious DVD series of already-outstanding quality.
What do you think?

I just know I'm not alone on this. There has to be many, many more TOS fans out there who would be willing to shell-out the collective big bucks for this. Think of it! This material is largely unreleased.
Unfortunately, we would be stuck without specific episode commentary. But as someone who's almost done collecting the entire DVD set, this would be the next best thing... and another moneymaker for Paramount.

My money is ready to give to Paramount for something like this. Great idea!
I assume the materials being referred to here are those that were included on the Sci-Fi Channel's run of the series. I didn't get to see those so that material would be great, including the infamous Blooper reel would be cool. Although I'm sure it could be difficult to secure that material from Ms. Majel Barrett or the current owner.

I too would LOVE to have the blooper reel included on a "Supplemental" (great title!) disk. I'm willing to bet that we'll NEVER see it on an official commercial release due to royalty concerns.
PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!!!

I would love to have the bloopers included on this release, of course. But with or without them, I believe this disk would be a big seller.
You could also include things like rare photos, or TV Guide advertisements... maybe even a documentary about the making of what were then groundbreaking special effects.
This could be a DVD rich in material.

Also, perhaps there are old TV Guide articles and covers that could be included with this.
Paramount also put out an "Inside Star Trek" VHS tape a couple years back, including priceless interviews with members of the original production team, and former NBC execs. Maybe they could get ahold of the raw tape and repackage that into some of the extras.

I also have a tape called "Star Trek - 30 Years and Beyond" "A Tribute to 30 Years in the Final Frontier" tape. That would be nice to have on DVD (if not only to replace the damn VHS Tape! :)
Please Paramount?
Thanks,
Chris.

Absolutely, Chris.
Surprisingly, I'm not getting a lot of response to the idea of an extras-only DVD.
I fear if people who want it don't express their support for it, the project won't happen.
I'm one of many who have spent a lot of hard-earned money on this DVD collection. I feel an extras-only DVD would really put the icing on the cake.

Sure, I'd much rather be able to buy the supplement separately than have to re-buy the movie.
Paramount has put out so MANY fine film-only DVD's without supplements, that this course of action is perhaps the best thing they can offer all of their loyal consumers. Especially since we've already shelled out above-average prices for the ones we have! (Here I am, back on THAT kick again)

I hadn't seen this yet (I really need to check this part of the board more often...), but I'd love it if a project like this could come together. Count me in on this one also, if it ever happens!
